In 2002, Per Aarsleff Polska Sp. z o.o. undertook the most complex, largest and longest No-Dig pipe renovation performed to date in Poland.
The project was performed for Warsaw Waterworks and consisted in the rehabilitation of almost 6 km of pipeline in a heavily trafficked area in the centre and Old Town of the Polish capital. Some of the pipes are over 100 years old and in very poor condition.
Due to the position of the pipes, the client placed heavy demands on the contractor as to the solution of the task: Among other things, the surroundings and traffic were to suffer a minimum of disruption, and the capacity was to be maintained throughout the whole renovation period.
Aarsleff chose to use CIPP lining. In all, the project required 25 relinings, each of which were carried out over a period of four to six days. Only at four positions, it was necessary to shut off and trench the street. The remaining installations were carried out from the pavement or grass areas and so the disruption to the surroundings was reduced to a minimum.
For the choice of relining system and successful performance in Warsaw, Mr Arkadiusz Bachan, Director of Per Aarsleff Sp. z o.o., won the international No-Dig prize. The prize was awarded by the Committee of ISST, International Society for Trenchless Technology, at the international No-Dig 2003 Conference held in Las Vegas.
