On the artificial island Dokøen in the heart of Copenhagen, Aarsleff has constructed a cofferdam for the new Copenhagen Opera House.
The contract was highly complex and the cofferdam was constructed in a small area with difficult access to the construction site situated only a few metres away from the dock in Port of Copenhagen and a few metres away from old, preservation-worthy buildings founded on timber piles.
Aarsleff executed the earth and sheet pile works as well as groundwater lowering. The sheet pile works involved both permanent and temporary sheet piles.
The earthwork comprised excavation, removal and deposit of 120,000 cubic metres of soil. The cofferdam had excavation formations at six different levels, and at the deepest level the excavation reached a depth of 16 metres.
