In cooperation with two German companies Aarsleff participated in improving the flood protection at Hamburg Harbour in 1999-2000.
The consortium executed an approx. 120 m long, new quay, renovated 50 m of an existing quay and established a new promenade and parking area.
The very cramped space at the harbour resulted in part of the work having to be executed from a scaffold on water. The installation of sheet piles and soil nails were carried out this way. The rest of the work was implemented from a Jack-up platform.
Furthermore, during the entire process the tide, the existing harbour constructions and the location close to the centre of Hamburg had to be taken into account.
