In central Vejle, Denmark, Aarsleff is participating in the construction of a new retarding basin for Vejle Municipality.

The basin will be located at one of the lowest points in Vejle and is therefore a natural place to collect rainwater and sewage before pumping the water to the treatment plant under controlled conditions.

The work commenced on 1st October, when Aarsleff arrived with our sheet pile pressing machine, the Silent Piler. After this, the actual excavation work can begin. Contract manager Tom Fjordside of Aarsleff expects to reach the water table already at two or three metres below the ground. The surrounding houses and the naturally high water table at the site make it impossible to execute groundwater lowering.

This means that the remaining two or three metres of excavation as well as all concrete works must take place under water, assisted by divers.

According to the plan, the concrete works are to commence in November. The 600 square metre basin is to be handed over in January 2004.
