In May 2002, the new airport in Billund was ready for use. The airport extension included a new terminal building situated on the opposite side of the existing runway, a new taxiway to the runway and a new apron for aircraft parking.

Aarsleff was, in cooperation with Ove Arkil A/S, responsible for the earth, dewatering, installation and surfacing works on the taxiway and apron.

A major part of the work affected the existing airport facilities within the safety fence, where the air traffic was to remain in service unaffected by the large construction work. Out of consideration for the air traffic safety and the contractors' safety, planning and coordination were important keywords on this project.
