Situated at the west coast of Lithuania is the seaport Klaipeda - an important port of transit in the Baltic.
To improve the mooring facilities and permitting 250m long vessels with up to 13.5m draught to call at the port, Aarsleff commenced the DKK149 million large marine construction project in the beginning of 2001.
Two breakwaters were extended and the entrance to the port was dredged and deepened. A total of 635,000 tons of stones were transported from a quarry in Sweden to the Lithuanian port where the large amount of stones in sizes ranging from 100 grams to 13 tons were employed for renovating and extending the breakwaters. In the fall of 2002, the completed project was handed over to the client - nearly one year ahead of contract deadline.
